"Our biodiversity holds enormous bioeconomic potential, encompassing marketable marine commodities for export, ecotourism potential, and the implementation of biodiversity credits," said Rachmat Pambudy, Minister of National Development Planning and Head of Bappenas, in Jakarta on Tuesday.
"However, the conditions are clear: biodiversity must be protected, conservation area protection, and ecosystem restoration must also be implemented," he added.
According to him, if conservation efforts and bioeconomy could be implemented simultaneously, it was hoped that the renewable natural resource-based economy could continue to grow sustainably and have a significant impact on the national economic growth rate.
"This way, it can become an economic driver and a natural heritage for future generations in Indonesia and the world," he said.
Pambudy emphasized that biodiversity data-driven development plays a crucial role in accelerating national economic growth targets.
In addition, efforts to drive a knowledge-based economy also need to be continuously encouraged in order to achieve the national economic growth target of 8 percent.
"Complete and accurate data allows the potential of forests, seas, and genetic resources to be processed into added economic value through bioprospecting, bioeconomy innovation, downstream industrial products, utilization of ecosystem services, and the implementation of biodiversity credits," he said.
He urged relevant stakeholders, including the Ministry of Environment, to take a strategic role, particularly in policy and law enforcement regarding the protection of Indonesia's biological natural resources.
"We must have stricter regulations so that law enforcement can protect our biodiversity," he stated.
