Speaking at a panel discussion titled "Space: Urgency and Relevance for Indonesia" on Thursday, Adiwoso referred to a 2025 Deloitte study that estimated space-related activities could contribute up to US$100 billion to ASEAN’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Indonesia, he said, is projected to play the leading role in realizing this economic potential.
“According to the study, the spaceport alone could generate up to US$200 million in annual revenue,” Adiwoso noted.
He emphasized that the space economy is an emerging sector involving multiple fields, including academia, defense, and communications. He also highlighted the importance of engaging the younger generation.
“This is the right time for Indonesia’s youth to start building this new industry,” he added.
Separately, Head of the Research Organization for Aeronautics and Space (ORPA) at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Robertus Heru Triharjanto, outlined strategic programs such as developing a remote sensing satellite constellation, expanding Internet of Things (IoT) applications, and constructing a spaceport to support satellite launches from within Indonesia.
He said BRIN is also inviting international launch service providers to use Indonesia as a launch site.
“We aim to create an ecosystem that allows the private sector to participate actively, not only in utilizing satellite data, but also in developing downstream solutions, such as user interfaces and information services,” Triharjanto stated.
