Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named Deputy Minister of Manpower Immanuel Ebenezer Gerungan (IEG) as a suspect in an alleged extortion case on the processing of occupational health and safety (OHS) certification within the ministry.

"The KPK has escalated this case to the investigation stage and named 11 individuals as suspects, including IEG," KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto said at the KPK office on Friday.

According to Budiyanto, the anti-graft agency will detain IEG for the first 20 days, from August 22 to September 10, 2025, at the KPK Detention Center in the Merah Putih Building.

IEG is suspected of violating Article 12 letter e and/or Article 12B of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption, as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 in conjunction with Law Number 20 of 2001. Article 55 paragraph (1) point 1 of the Criminal Code.

Previously, news of the KPK's sting operation against the Deputy Minister of Manpower was confirmed by KPK Deputy Chairman Fitroh Rohcahyanto on Thursday (August 21).

According to him, the alleged extortion was carried out by Ebenezer against several companies.

The KPK had also confiscated 22 vehicles — 15 cars and 7 motorcycles — owned by Ebenezer, in connection with the case.

"There were several cars, also including a Ducati motorcycle," Rohcahyanto added.

A sum of cash was also seized during the sting operation, along with 10 other people arrested in relation to the case.

Furthermore, the KPK sealed the premises of the Directorate General of Manpower Supervision and Occupational Health and Safety at the Ministry of Manpower.

Meanwhile, Manpower Minister Yassierli reiterated his ministry's zero-tolerance stance on corruption following the arrest of his deputy.

"As instructed by President Prabowo, there must be no tolerance toward corrupt actions," he told a press conference hours after the arrest.
