“BNN has strengthened cooperation with Myanmar’s law enforcement agencies, a country known for massive drug production in Southeast Asia,” BNN Head Marthinus Hukom said on Friday.
He explained that the cooperation focuses on improving coordination and information exchange to block the operations of drug syndicates in the Golden Triangle—where the borders of Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos meet—that are attempting to smuggle drugs into Indonesia.
Hukom also called on all parties, from ministry leaders to village heads, to strengthen their determination to protect the people from drug syndicates.
“We must always be vigilant against traitors of the nation who, whether knowingly or unknowingly, want to destroy their own people for financial gain,” he stressed.
Furthermore, he urged law enforcement officials to uphold integrity and commitment in tackling drug trafficking.
He noted that 10 regions have been identified as the most vulnerable to drug smuggling and illicit trafficking: Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, South Sumatra, Riau Islands, Riau, Jambi, West Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, and the western coastal areas of Sulawesi.
Hukom affirmed that BNN and other agencies will intensify operations in these areas to prevent drug trafficking, particularly from abroad.
