Head of the BNN Jakarta Office, Brig. Gen. Awang Joko Rumitro, said on Friday that the busts followed intensive investigations into suspicious activity by several perpetrators.
After surveillance, officers arrested multiple suspects acting as couriers and dealers.
The first case came to light on June 17 when officers arrested a man in East Jakarta and found 3.57 kilograms of marijuana allegedly meant for distribution in the capital and surrounding areas.
On June 21, BNN conducted a controlled delivery of a package containing 98 ecstasy pills sent from Medan, North Sumatra. The operation led to the arrest of two suspects at an apartment in North Jakarta. Further investigation resulted in another arrest at a hotel in Tangerang, Banten.
On June 24, officers received information about a shipment of marijuana from Medan to Sidoarjo, East Java, via a shipping service, then visited the warehouse and found 918.3 grams of marijuana.
"However, after further investigation, it was discovered that the address and recipient of the package were fake," Rumitro explained.
On June 25, officers arrested a man in South Jakarta with 2.27 kilograms of methamphetamine. A controlled delivery then led to the arrest of two more suspects in a cemetery area, followed by one more arrest in East Jakarta.
The next arrest took place on July 8 at Soekarno-Hatta Airport's domestic terminal in Tangerang, where officers apprehended two passengers with nearly 1 kilogram of methamphetamine. Subsequent investigation led to another arrest in East Aceh.
On July 10, a man was arrested after picking up a 632-gram marijuana package at an expedition warehouse in East Jakarta.
The final case occurred on July 13, when officers arrested a man at Tanjung Priok Terminal in North Jakarta with 1.99 kilograms of methamphetamine. A woman was later arrested in North Jakarta following further investigation.
Rumitro confirmed that the arrests were the result of collaborative efforts between officers and public information.
All suspects are in custody and face charges under the Narcotics Law, which carries varying penalties.
