Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Health Ministry has confirmed 733 cases of bullying within the country’s Specialist Doctor Education Program (PPDS) as of August 15, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said on Friday.

The cases were verified from 2,920 complaints submitted through the ministry’s reporting platform, which saw a surge following public outcry over viral bullying incidents in medical institutions.

“After verification, 733 reports met the criteria for bullying,” Budi said at a national seminar on bullying, corruption, and sexual violence prevention at Padjadjaran University in Bandung.

Of the confirmed cases, 433 occurred in health facilities and medical institutions under the Health Ministry’s authority. The remaining cases came from non-ministry hospitals (84), medical faculties (84), and unidentified institutions (34).

Prof. Dr. Kandou General Hospital in Manado recorded the highest number of bullying cases between 2023 and 2025 with 84 reports, followed by Hasan Sadikin Hospital in Bandung (83), IGN Ngoerah Hospital in Bali (43), Sardjito Hospital in Yogyakarta (39), and Cipto Mangunkusumo National Hospital in Jakarta (37).

Among regional public hospitals (RSUD), the highest reports were from Zainal Abidin Hospital in Banda Aceh (31), Dr. Moewardi Hospital in Surakarta (21), Saiful Anwar Hospital in Malang (18), Dr. Soetomo Hospital in Surabaya (12), and Arifin Achmad Hospital in Riau (9).

The minister stressed the grave impact of bullying against these specialist program students. In some internal surveys, many students expressed the immense mental pressure they went through, to the point they wanted to end their lives, he noted.

"This issue must be addressed with utmost seriousness. A specific program is needed to protect the students' mental health," he remarked.
