Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Religious Affairs Ministry and the Ministry of Villages have partnered to expand the 2025 Kampung Zakat (Zakat Village) program, aiming to tap into rural zakat potential and support local economic development.

The program targets 35 villages across the country to build a productive zakat ecosystem, focusing on agriculture, fisheries, and plantations. The potential zakat collection is estimated at IDR 51 trillion.

"Villages hold untapped economic potential. Through this partnership, we aim to integrate zakat into rural economic systems," Director of Zakat and Waqf Empowerment at the ministry Waryono Abdul Ghafur said here Monday.

The initiative will use existing village infrastructure, such as village-owned enterprises (BUMDes) and local cooperatives, to manage and distribute zakat funds in cooperation with Village Zakat Collection Units (UPZ).
