The president will talk about ‘Nusantara diplomacy,’ which can be understood as placing consensus, justice, and balance at the foundation of international relations,Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto’s upcoming speech at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 80) next month will mark a new milestone in Indonesia’s diplomacy, according to the House of Representatives (DPR).
“President Prabowo’s speech at the UN will bring a new colour to Indonesia’s diplomacy,” said Syahrul Aidi Maazat, a member of the DPR’s Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Body (BKSAP), during a parliamentary discussion event here on Thursday.
He explained that Prabowo is expected to emphasize humanitarian solidarity amid overlapping global crises, including food security, climate change, economic inequality, and geopolitical tensions.
“The president will talk about ‘Nusantara diplomacy,’ which can be understood as placing consensus, justice, and balance at the foundation of international relations,” Maazat said.
According to him, Nusantara diplomacy reflects Indonesia’s national character of mutual assistance and universal humanity, offering contributions toward a more balanced world order.
He added that the president’s appearance at the UNGA will provide an opportunity to showcase moral leadership and promote collaborative solutions to global conflicts, rather than confrontation.
“It is a strategic moment to show Indonesia as a major country that stands for peace, justice, and global cooperation,” he said.
Maazat expressed hope that Prabowo will underline Indonesia’s role not merely as a spectator on the global stage, but as an active player in shaping a just civilisation.
He also voiced optimism that the speech “will strengthen Indonesia’s global standing and serve as a shared inspiration for peace and justice.”
President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to deliver his remarks during the UNGA General Debate on September 23, 2025. He will speak after Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and United States President Donald Trump.
His speech will mark the first time in more than a decade that an Indonesian president has addressed the General Assembly, following the absence of his predecessor, Joko Widodo.
