Barantin will assist firms in establishing independent quarantine labs that meet regulatory requirements, he said at the launch of PT Syngenta Seed Indonesia’s new lab in East Java on Thursday.
"Quarantine centers exist in all provinces, but with economic growth, qualified companies may set up their own labs," Panggabean said.
He emphasized that while external parties may conduct quarantine procedures, oversight and responsibility remain with Barantin.
Barantin ensures seeds, agricultural products, and other commodities moved across islands are disease-free and safe for distribution.

To set up independent labs, companies must meet both technical and administrative requirements.
Key technical criteria include the lab’s capacity to meet Barantin’s diagnostic standards and product health targets.
Firms must also meet international standards, including ISO 17025 certification for lab quality and competence.
"We welcome companies establishing labs under proper regulations. It supports Barantin and helps streamline their operations," Panggabean added.
Christian Bayu, head of Production and Supply at Syngenta Indonesia, said the company holds a 40–45 percent share of the national seed market.
Bayu hopes the new lab will speed up distribution by avoiding delays at government quarantine centers and boost seed production.
