Manado (ANTARA) - The Head of the North Sulawesi Population and Civil Registry Office (Disdukcapil) Christodharma Sondakh said the demographic bonus depends on the younger generation.

“As the young generation, the demographic bonus rests on your shoulders. Will we become a nation that is advanced, productive, and prosperous, or the opposite?” Christodharma said in front of senior high school students of Public High School (SMAN) 9 in Manado on Saturday.

He explained that one of the efforts to develop advanced and productive nation begins with youths' awareness on population issues, reproductive health, and careful life planning through the Generasi Berencana (Planned Generation) program carried out by the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN).

“You (youths) are the architects of the future, the next leaders who will carry forward and build North Sulawesi and Indonesia toward its peak in the Golden Indonesia 2045 era,” he added.

According to Christodharma, youths who care about population issues can be agents of change in the future.

“You (youths) are ambassadors to spread the messages on preventing stunting, avoiding early marriage, and staying away from drugs,” he said.

He stressed that such a journey to cultivate demographic bonus cannot be taken alone, but requires strong collaboration among BKKBN, related ministries, schools as learning centers, the government as facilitator, and parents as the main supporters.

“Together, we must create an environment that supports youths' optimal growth and development,” he remarked.

Christodharma also expressed confidence that with determination, intelligence, and strong character, students of SMAN 9 Manado will be able to face any challenges.

“Let us fill our youth with positive activities, achievements, and real contributions to the nation,” he encouraged.

The Ministry of Population and Family Development/BKKBN organized the Youth Population Awareness Socialization program at SMAN 9 Manado.

The event was attended by BKKBN Deputy for Population Control Bonivasius Prasetya Ichtiarto, North Sulawesi BKKBN Representative Head Jeanny Y. Winokan, the school principal, North Sulawesi Governor’s Special Staff Sarifuddin Kamis, and some other guests.
