Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) is continuing to coordinate with regional governments and field officers as forest and land fires hit Klaten and Sragen Districts of Central Java and Aceh Besar District, Aceh.

The step has been taken as an anticipatory measure against the potential spread of fires as the dry season continues in several areas in Indonesia.

Head of the Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center of the BNPB, Abdul Muhari, here on Monday, reported that fires in Krakitan Village and Kaligawe Village of Klaten District occurred on Sunday (August 31) at around 11:30 a.m. Western Indonesia Time (WIB).

The total affected area in the two villages stood at 4.5 hectares.

"The fires have been extinguished by the joint officers on the same day. The cause of the fires is still being investigated by the authorities," he affirmed.

Based on data from the Operations Control Center of the BNPB, fire was also found in Plumbon Village of Sragen District at 1:00 p.m. on the same day.

Muhari explained that the fire was initially started in a sugarcane plantation area of a resident, and then spread, reaching 4 hectares, but was then put out by officers.

Furthermore, a wildfire was also reported in Aceh Besar District, Aceh, on Sunday (August 31) at around 6:10 p.m. WIB. He noted that the burnt areas reached five hectares in the Gampong Bukit Radar Blang Bintang area of Blang Bintang Sub-district.

"The fire was successfully extinguished by the joint team within a few hours. The cause of the fire is still under investigation," he remarked.

Earlier, BNPB had set six priority provinces for forest and land fire mitigation in the country, namely Riau, Jambi, South Sumatra, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, and South Kalimantan.
