Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is investigating the distribution of additional Hajj quotas in 2024 to former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas during his initial questioning as a witness in the Hajj quota case.

"Investigators are examining the chronology of the additional quota, which then, through a ministerial decree, led to the distribution of special and regular Hajj quotas," KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo informed on Monday.

The anti-graft agency is also investigating the alleged money flows from the distribution of additional Hajj quotas to Yaqut.

The former Religious Minister was summoned by the KPK for questioning on Monday for nearly seven hours.

Previously, on August 9, 2025, the KPK announced the commencement of an investigation into alleged corruption in the determination of the Hajj quota and the organization of the 2023-2024 Hajj pilgrimage at the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

The agency has also established communication with the State Audit Board (BPK) to calculate state financial losses in the Hajj quota case.

On August 11, 2025, the KPK announced its initial calculation of state losses in the case reached over Rp1 trillion (US$58 million), and barred three individuals from leaving the country, including Yaqut.

Besides the KPK, the House of Representatives' Special Committee on Hajj Inquiry also found several irregularities in the organization of the 2024 Hajj pilgrimage.

The main point highlighted by the committee was the 50:50 quota distribution of the 20,000 additional quota allocated by the Saudi Arabian government.

At that time, the Ministry of Religious Affairs allocated an additional quota of 10,000 for regular Hajj pilgrims and 10,000 for special Hajj pilgrims.

This violates Article 64 of Law Number 8 of 2019 concerning the Implementation of the Hajj and Umrah Pilgrimages, which stipulates an eight percent quota for special Hajj pilgrims and 92 percent for regular Hajj pilgrims.
