“Yes, it happened before,” Budiyanto confirmed at Bhayangkara Field, National Police Headquarters, in Jakarta on Saturday.
He assured that the case is still being handled by the anti-graft body.
“Everything is currently in progress, and we are awaiting the next phase,” he added.
When asked whether former religious affairs minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas may be summoned in the case, Budiyanto said that the possibility remains under the broader framework of the ongoing investigation.
Earlier, on June 20, 2025, the KPK confirmed that it had invited and summoned several parties for questioning over the case.
The commission emphasized that the matter is still at the preliminary investigation stage and has not yet advanced to a full inquiry.
On September 10, 2024, the KPK declared its readiness to investigate allegations of gratuities connected to the allocation of special Hajj quotas for the 2024 pilgrimage.
The commission stressed that the step was vital to ensure the government, particularly the Ministry of Religious Affairs, delivers fair and corruption-free Hajj services.
Separately, the House’s Hajj Inquiry Committee reported discovering several irregularities in the 2024 Hajj management.
One key issue raised by the committee was the 50:50 division of the additional 20 thousand Hajj quotas granted by Saudi Arabia.
At the time, the Religious Affairs Ministry allocated 10 thousand of the additional quota for the regular Hajj program and 10 thousand for the special Hajj program.
