Beijing (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto met Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Wednesday, pledging to strengthen bilateral ties following a military parade marking the 80th anniversary of China's victory in the war of resistance against Japan.

The meeting took place at the Great Hall of the People shortly after Xi hosted a luncheon for foreign leaders attending the event in Tiananmen Square.

Prabowo expressed regret over missing the recent Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit, citing domestic challenges, but said Indonesia’s situation is stabilizing.

“Indonesia and China are true friends. Our relationship is a top priority in Indonesia’s foreign policy,” he told Xi.

Prabowo said Indonesia hopes to expand cooperation in trade, investment, finance, and infrastructure, and thanked China for its ongoing support for Indonesia’s development.

Xi praised Prabowo’s visit despite the domestic situation, calling it a sign of Indonesia’s sincere friendship and commitment to strong ties.

He reaffirmed China’s support for Indonesia’s political stability and continued growth.

Marking key anniversaries — 75 years of diplomatic relations, Indonesia’s 80th year of independence, and 70 years since the Bandung Conference — Xi said both countries should uphold independence, mutual benefit, and shared responsibility for peace and development.

He called for deeper alignment between Indonesia’s development agenda and China’s Belt and Road Initiative, with expanded cooperation in defense, critical minerals, digital economy, AI, agriculture, and fisheries.

China also offered to share its poverty alleviation experience, promote cultural exchanges, and oppose unilateralism in favor of regional stability and global fairness.

Prabowo was accompanied by Foreign Minister Sugiono, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and Deputy Minister of Higher Education Stella Christie.

Xi was joined by Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Commerce Minister Wang Wentao, and senior Communist Party official Cai Qi.
