Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Bima Arya Sugiarto emphasized the importance for regional governments to immediately carry out recovery efforts following public demonstrations.

"The Ministry of Home Affairs has mapped out the extent of the damage across Indonesia, including the necessary steps for recovery," he said in a ministry's statement received here on Thursday.

During a coordination meeting on the current situation in Cirebon District, West Java on Tuesday (September 3), Sugiarto addressed the recent incident in the district, in which the regional legislative council (DPRD) building was set on fire, causing substantial damage that must be quickly addressed.

"Home Minister Tito Karnavian wants to convey his deep concern over the incident that occurred in Cirebon. The Minister has asked me to convey several key points that require our joint attention," he stated.

He explained that the ministry had conducted a nationwide assessment of damage to buildings and public infrastructure.

"We are seeing much damage to public facilities. In Jakarta, for example, many bus shelters and toll gates were targeted. In many regions, government buildings such as DPRD offices and other state-owned facilities, including vehicles, were targeted," he said.

Sugiarto conveyed three main directives from Minister Karnavian. First, the Cirebon District Government is instructed to compile a comprehensive report on the damage, especially to the DPRD office and public facilities.

The report should include a recovery plan and budget requirements, considering the regional budget (APBD) capacity.

Second, Sugiarto called on the district government to quickly repair public facilities. He emphasized that timely restoration not only restores functionality but also helps dispel the atmosphere of fear or tension.

Third, the local government is asked to identify and understand the public grievances that led to the demonstrations, whether related to national or local issues, and address them through meaningful dialogue and solutions.
