Makassar, South Sulawesi (ANTARA) - Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf highlighted that President Prabowo Subianto has shown "extraordinary concern" for victims of protests and riots that engulfed multiple cities in Indonesia last week.

"The president has an extraordinary concern for all the victims, from the public or police officers," Yusuf told reporters as he presented compensation to the riot victims in Makassar, South Sulawesi, on Friday.

His statement was conveyed during his meeting with the family of Rusdamdiansyah (26), also known as Dandi, a victim of a mistaken identity case amid riots in Makassar on August 29, 2025. He was beaten to death by mobs who mistook him for an intelligence officer.

The minister explained that the visit to Dandi's family is to show the government's support for the victims of the riots. On the occasion, he presented financial compensation to the family of Dandi and other victims of the riot who gathered at Dandi's family home.

The compensation, given directly to the next of kin of victims who have died, will amount to Rp15 million (US$913). Meanwhile, every injured victim gets Rp5 million (US$304.5).

He affirmed that the protests and the ensuing riots that caused fatalities will be a matter of concern for the national and regional authorities.

"To show that the government is mindful of the victims, we provide them with compensation, and we are ready to provide other means of support in the form of social protection," the minister said.

Yusuf explained that his ministry is ready to provide social security, social and medical rehabilitation, and social empowerment programs to help residents affected by the recent unrest.

The minister also said that his side will continue assessing the data on casualties in the unrest since some injured victims "returned home before their conditions can be accounted for."

During his visit to the Presidential Palace on Thursday (September 4), Yusuf disclosed that the newest data from the ministry recorded a total of 22 casualties from the unrest, including 7 fatalities, 9 residents with serious injuries, and 6 injured police officers.
