During a visit on Monday to a junior high Sekolah Rakyat in Batu City, East Java, Yusuf said the Ministry of Social Affairs is coordinating with the Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform (PANRB) and the State Civil Service Agency (BKN) on the initiative.
He explained that the allowance will be based on local regulations, but if a region's allowance is lower than the national average, the national standard will apply.
Currently, 100 Sekolah Rakyat are operational, with 65 more scheduled to open by the end of September 2025. Once all 165 schools are running, they are expected to serve up to 16,000 students, with more than 2,000 teachers and 4,000 education staff.
"We hope the program will run smoothly," Yusuf said.
Sekolah Rakyat are free, government-funded boarding schools for children from poor and extremely poor families. The program aims to reduce dropout rates and break the cycle of poverty.
