Bengkulu (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Transmigration has allocated Rp5.5 billion to support the development of two transmigration areas in North Bengkulu District, Bengkulu Province.

“To strengthen infrastructure, the Ministry of Transmigration has disbursed Rp5.5 billion to these two locations,” Deputy Minister of Transmigration Viva Yoga Mulyadi remarked here on Wednesday.

Mulyadi explained that the transmigration program is not merely about relocating people from densely populated areas to new regions, but also serves as a catalyst for economic growth.

“Many transmigration areas have now become food production centers, including North Bengkulu, which is recognized as one of the province’s rice barns,” he said.

On Tuesday (September 9), Mulyadi visited several transmigration areas in North Bengkulu, including the Integrated Independent Area (KTM) of Lais, Giri Makmur, and Ketahun, or known as the KTM Lagita.

He pointed out two transmigration sites currently under government attention, namely Enggano Island, one of Indonesia’s outermost islands, and the Lagita area in Ketahun Sub-district.

During his visit, Mulyadi praised the presence of Lagita Hospital, located in the villages of Giri Mulya and Giri Kencana, which reflect the area’s independence.

The hospital currently offers inpatient care with a capacity of 50 beds and is supported by eight specialist doctors.

“This is remarkable. A transmigration area in Bengkulu now has its own hospital. This proves that transmigration areas can foster self-reliance and benefit local communities,” he said.

Meanwhile, Bengkulu Governor Helmi Hasan emphasized that the hospital’s presence shows the success of the transmigration program.

He added that the provincial government will also provide free ambulance services and has allocated Rp44 billion this year to improve road access to the transmigration areas.
