“Nusantara Lima serves as a bridge that connects Indonesia without limits,” she said here on Friday.
According to her, the N5 satellite can also expand access to digital services across the country.
“High-speed internet is not just about technology, it is about equal opportunities. Children in Maluku and Papua will now have the same learning access as those in Jakarta," she explained.
She continued, internet can help patients in remote islands to consult top doctors from other regions, and the micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSMEs) can compete in the digital economy.
"This is what true digital equity means,” she added.
The N5 satellite is owned by PT Satelit Nusantara Lima (SNL), a subsidiary of PT Pasifik Satelit Nusantara (PSN), developed through a global collaboration with Boeing Satellite Systems, Hughes Network Systems, and SpaceX.
It was launched aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral, United States, on September 10, 2025.
N5 will operate in the strategic orbital slot at 113 degrees East Longitude, allowing it to cover the entire Indonesian archipelago.
With a capacity of 160 Gbps, N5 is the largest communications satellite in Southeast Asia.
This launch marks the continuation of Indonesia’s milestones in satellite development, including Palapa A1 (1976), Nusantara Satu (2019), and SATRIA-1 (2023).
The presence of N5 is expected to improve distance learning, digital healthcare, online-based MSMEs, and public access to information and entertainment, particularly in remote regions.
The satellite also reinforces Indonesia’s position as a satellite operator and a hub for digital connectivity.
