“The dance industry offers significant added value, not only in terms of art, but also as a driving force of the creative economy,” Minister Harsya said in the ministry's press statement here on Friday.
With the right support, he said, the industry can become a leading sector that drives the growth of Indonesia’s creative economy.
He expressed support for strengthening the performing arts ecosystem, including disciplines such as dancesport and breakdance.
According to him, government synergy with communities is essential to create creative spaces that not only encourage artistic expression but also generate tangible economic benefits for industry players.
The Minister’s statement followed a meeting with the Indonesian Federation of Dancesport and Breaking (FDBI), a continuation of earlier discussions during the Street Dance/Breaking/Dancesport event at the Taman Budaya in West Nusa Tenggara, during the 8th National Sports Festival on July 27, 2025.
Indonesia’s dance industry has shown rapid growth in recent years, with many artists and communities gaining national and international recognition, showing the sector’s promising future.
Minister Harsya noted the need for support to address concerns from the dance community, particularly regarding regulatory support to protect and develop the industry.
FDBI Chairman Ardiyansyah Djafar stated that the dance ecosystem requires policy support to ensure sustainable growth for its artists and communities.
He added that FDBI, as part of the creative economy sector, wants to contribute to Indonesia’s GDP and overall economic growth.
