Kuala Lumpur (ANTARA) - The Malaysian branch of Indonesia's Islamic organization Muhammadiyah on Sunday inaugurated Rumah Hamka (House of Hamka) in Batu Caves, Selangor, Malaysia, to expand preaching reach and promote unity.

The house is named after the late Abdul Malik Karim Amrullah, a Muhammadiyah cleric, politician, journalist, author, philosopher, and lecturer popularly known as Buya Hamka. He served as chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) from 1975 to 1981.

During the inauguration, Indonesian Deputy Ambassador to Malaysia Danang Waskito expressed hope that the house would bring benefits to all and help spread the ideas of Buya Hamka.

"This is our collective effort to boost intellectual development, considering that Buya Hamka was known not only as a prominent ulema but also as an author," he said, while highlighting the Selangor government's praise for Hamka's novels.

The deputy ambassador also expected the newly opened facility to serve purposes beyond Islamic preaching, offering a safe place to Indonesian citizens in Malaysia.

"The head of the Malaysian Muhammadiyah branch has said that this house is open for all -- it offers protection to our nationals. Of course, the embassy is responsible for this matter, but it would be better if we all work together," Waskito remarked.

Also present at the launching, a representative of Muhammadiyah's Central Executive Board, Agus Taufiqurrahman, described Rumah Hamka as a preaching center that promotes inclusivity and unity.

He quoted Buya Hamka as saying that people should cherish differences to build a sense of brotherhood.

Meanwhile, head of the Malaysian branch Fauzi Fatkhur highlighted that Rumah Hamka is envisioned as a place that helps the Indonesian nation nurture a generation of intellectuals with noble character.

"Rumah Hamka is a symbol of unity among people from various walks of life under Islamic brotherhood. The presence of this house is a testament to collaboration among all parties," he said.
