Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia expressed solidarity with Qatar at an emergency Arab-Islamic summit in Doha on Monday, condemning last week’s Israeli attack on the Gulf state as a violation of sovereignty and international law.

Foreign Minister Sugiono, representing President Prabowo Subianto, praised Qatar’s resilience and conveyed condolences to victims of the strike.

“Indonesia stands with Qatar in this difficult time,” he said, according to a statement from the Foreign Ministry in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Sugiono said the assault was not only a breach of Qatar’s sovereignty but also a clear violation of international law, the UN Charter and principles of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. He called it a serious threat to regional and global peace.

He added that the attack was part of a broader pattern of impunity that has persisted for decades.

“The Palestinian issue is not only about Palestine. It concerns the survival of our nations, the dignity of our peoples, and the sanctity of international law,” he said.

The summit discussed a draft resolution in response to recent Israeli strikes across the Middle East, including the September 9 attack on Doha.

Prabowo traveled to Qatar on September 12 to meet Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, underscoring Indonesia’s commitment to stand with Doha and reaffirming Jakarta’s call for peace in the region, the ministry said.

The emergency meeting was chaired by the Emir of Qatar and attended by 22 leaders from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Arab League. Participants included the presidents of Turkey, Palestine and Iran, as well as the prime ministers of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Malaysia.
