Indonesia’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) is aiming to complete 500 home renovations for low-income families by April 2026 as part of a nationwide housing initiative, an official said.
Thomas Djusman, Kadin’s Vice Chairman for Strategic Infrastructure and Rural Development, reported that 109 houses had been renovated as of mid-September, while another 37 were under construction.
“The target is 500 houses, and 37 are still in progress,” Thomas told reporters after attending the Gotong Royong National Housing Heritage Symposium in Jakarta on Tuesday evening.
Launched on April 15, 2025, in Tanah Tinggi, Johar Baru subdistrict, Central Jakarta, the program is part of Kadin’s Gotong Royong initiative to renovate uninhabitable homes.
It was inaugurated with Housing and Settlement Areas Minister Maruarar Sirait and Tzu Chi Buddhist Foundation Vice Chairman Sugianto Kusuma.
The initiative spans five regions: Jakarta (200 houses), West Java (100), Banten (100), Bangka Belitung (50), and East Nusa Tenggara (50).
Kadin Chairman Anindya Novyan Bakrie said the program aims not only to improve housing conditions physically but also to enhance health and resilience through better sanitation, clean water access, and stronger building structures.
He added that the program is financed entirely through joint contributions from Kadin members — including private companies, cooperatives, small businesses, and some state-owned enterprises — without relying on state or regional budgets.
