Jakarta (ANTARA) - An advisor at the Presidential Communication Office (PCO), Fithra Faisal, stated that freelance workers without formal contracts, such as online motorcycle taxi drivers, are among the primary beneficiaries of the 2025 economic stimulus package.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, he explained that the package comprises eight acceleration programs, four follow-up programs, and five worker absorption programs.

“Incentives under this economic stimulus also cover protection for informal workers. The government is paying special attention to them,” he said.

One of the acceleration programs includes subsidized premiums for social security which covers work accident and death compensation targeting transport sector workers, including online motorcycle taxi drivers (ojol), conventional motorcycle taxis, drivers, couriers, and logistics workers.

This premium subsidy offers up to a 50 percent discount for a period of six months, targeting 731,361 recipients.

The government is also introducing a program to improve housing conditions for gig workers in selected regions, including Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, Banten, Bali, North Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, and Batam.

“For the gig economy, which is predominantly informal, we are prioritizing access to decent housing,” Faisal added.

According to him, the stimulus package is comprehensive, aimed not only at improving the welfare of middle-to-lower communities but also at opening job opportunities through the paid internship program, the Red and White Village Co-ops, and the Red and White Fishermen’s Villages.

“This is full coverage. There is social welfare support and real demand-side measures like food and tax borne by the government. It addresses various public concerns,” he explained.

The package is backed by a financial policy that reallocates Rp200 trillion (US$12.189 billion) from Bank Indonesia to six state-owned banks to boost liquidity.

“Liquidity alone will not help unless the real sector is active. Hence, the government is accelerating efforts to open up economic space,” Faisal concluded.
