Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia is committed to expanding and strengthening cooperation in the fields of critical minerals, sustainable development, education, defense, and public relations with the United States (US).

This was conveyed by Indonesian Ambassador to the US Dwisuryo Indroyono Soesilo in a press release from the Indonesian Embassy in Washington on Friday (September 19).

“I stand ready to work closely with our partners in the United States to further strengthen Indonesia–United States cooperation across various fields, in pursuit of peace, prosperity, and shared progress," he said.

Indroyono arrived in Washington to fill the position of Indonesian Ambassador to the US that has been vacant for approximately two years.

He is expected to bring new momentum into strengthening the Indonesia-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which was declared by President Joko Widodo and President Joe Biden in 2023, according to a press release.

The handover of office and responsibilities was carried out by Charge d'Affaires ad Interim (KUAI) Nidya Kartikasari to Indroyono.

Indroyono was inaugurated as Indonesian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the US by President Prabowo Subianto on August 25.

In addition to being a diplomat, Indroyono is a seasoned policymaker, diplomat, and scientist with decades of experience in maritime affairs, fisheries, and sustainable development.

He previously served as Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs, Secretary for the Coordinating Ministry for People’s Welfare, and Head of the Marine and Fisheries Research Agency.

At the international level, he was Director for Fisheries and Aquaculture at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.

Previously, in an interview with ANTARA, Indroyono said he would continue to strengthen the protection of Indonesian citizens in the US, one of which is by conducting outreach regarding US immigration, considering the increasingly strict US immigration policies under the Donald Trump administration.
