New York (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto lauded countries, including France, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom (UK), and Portugal, for officially recognizing the state of Palestine.

This was conveyed in his speech at the High-level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on Monday.

"We commend the leading states of the world that have taken this principled step: France, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, Portugal, and many other leading countries of the world have taken a step on the right side of history," he remarked.

He also expressed his appreciation to the Government of France and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for their leadership in convening the conference.

Prabowo highlighted that the humanitarian tragedy is still ongoing in Gaza, where thousands of people, many of them women and children, have been killed.

"We condemn all violence against innocent civilians," he emphasized.

In the conference, he reiterated Indonesia's commitment to the Two-State Solution as the key to peace for the Palestine–Israel conflict.

"We must stop the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza. Ending the war must be our utmost priority. We must overcome hatred, fear. We must overcome suspicion. We must achieve the peace that is necessary for the human family," he said.

Furthermore, the president also underscored Indonesia's readiness to recognize the state of Israel once Israel recognizes the independence and the statehood of Palestine.

He stressed the importance of stopping the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, adding that Indonesia is ready to take part in realizing peace, including sending peacekeeping forces.

"Peace now, peace immediately. We need peace," he said as he closed his speech.

As many as 33 delegation leaders representing countries and regional organizations delivered their speeches at the high-level conference.

On that occasion, President Prabowo was accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, Human Rights Minister Natalius Pigai, Investment and Downstreaming Minister Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, and Indonesia's Permanent Representative to the UN, Umar Hadi.
