Corporate Secretary of Pertamina’s subsidiary, Pertamina Patra Niaga, Roberth Dumatubun, stated that the company has offered to supply urgently needed fuel to private retailers operating in Indonesia—such as Shell and British Petroleum (BP)—which have been hampered by supply disruptions.
“We expect private companies to collaborate with us in good faith, while adhering to the regulations and requirements expected of a state-owned enterprise,” Dumatubun said on Wednesday.
He noted that Pertamina Patra Niaga met with private oil retailers on Friday (September 19), during which the retailers agreed to purchase base and unprocessed oil through Pertamina.
They also agreed to adopt an open-book pricing mechanism and involve an independent party in a joint surveyor scheme to ensure the quality of base oil supplied by Pertamina Patra Niaga, according to the company official.
Dumatubun assured that the oil import process for private enterprises complies with legal standards and principles of good corporate governance.
Pertamina Patra Niaga held a follow-up meeting with representatives of the private companies on Tuesday (September 24). Although some retailers indicated they still need time to coordinate with their global headquarters, all have committed to promptly reporting their additional fuel quota requirements.
The company official confirmed that the base oil shipment arriving in Jakarta meets the specifications set by the Directorate General of Oil and Gas at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
Dumatubun added that oil quality will be monitored through the joint surveyor mechanism, and that one-on-one meetings with private retailers to detail their supply needs and distribution plans will be held soon.
“We hope to receive information on fuel supply requirements from private companies soon to ensure smooth distribution to the public. This step is also in line with the Energy Minister’s directive to ensure timely availability of both subsidized and non-subsidized fuel,” he remarked.
