Speaking at a high-level meeting on Gaza held alongside the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York, Sugiono said any long-term peace or rebuilding efforts must involve Palestinians at the center of the process.
“We believe Gaza’s future must be led and owned by Palestinians themselves,” he said.
The meeting, led by French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, brought together officials from 11 countries, along with the European Union and the Arab League.
They discussed plans to create a United Nations-backed mission to help stabilize and rebuild Gaza.
Sugiono stressed that a ceasefire is the most urgent step before any plans can move forward.

“Without peace on the ground, no plan can succeed. A ceasefire is the first step toward recovery,” he said.
He also said the next phase should end the occupation of Palestinian land. Indonesia, he added, is ready to take part in a UN peacekeeping mission, as long as it has a clear mandate to protect civilians, allow humanitarian aid, and help keep the region stable.
“Indonesia is ready to support a UN mission that truly helps people on the ground,” Sugiono said.
The meeting followed the New York Declaration, a document adopted during a UN summit in July and approved by the General Assembly on Sept. 12.
Indonesia played an active role as a co-chair of the summit’s working group.
Countries attending included Egypt, Jordan, Italy, the UK, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Germany, the UAE, Qatar, as well as representatives from the EU and Arab League.
