In his speech during the 80th Session of the UNGA in New York, United States, on Tuesday (September 23), the president affirmed Indonesia’s readiness to deploy 20,000 peacekeeping personnel to Gaza and other conflict-affected areas under a UN mandate.
“Mr. President wanted to show that Indonesia’s peace efforts go beyond words. We are ready to share the burden by deploying troops and mobilizing funds. The message is clear: Indonesia will not remain idle,” Hafid stated on Wednesday.
The minister explained that this firm stance stemmed from Indonesia's firsthand experience with oppression, colonialism, and injustice.
She added that President Prabowo also urged the international community to avoid abuse of power, while reiterating Indonesia's determination to play an active role in global affairs.
"Indonesia is not passively waiting. We offer solutions; we seek to become a nation that gives hope, not only to Palestine but also to humanity as a whole," Hafid elaborated.
On the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, she said the head of state once again underscored Indonesia’s commitment to supporting the realization of the two-state solution as a pathway to peace between Palestine and Israel.
The Indonesian leader used the General Debate of the UNGA 80th Session to draw global attention to several pressing issues of common concern, including Israel's genocidal actions in Gaza, climate change, and the transition to clean energy.
He also highlighted Indonesia's intensive efforts to achieve food and energy self-sufficiency, as well as its views on the importance of the United Nations.
President Prabowo was the third speaker at the debate, following Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and US President Donald Trump. His speech marked the return of an Indonesian head of state to the high-level forum after a 10-year absence.
