Indonesia and Malaysia are enhancing police cooperation to tackle cross-border crime, following the 16th Malaysia-Indonesia Joint Police Cooperation Committee (Malindo JPCC) meeting held in Bali on Wednesday.
The Chief Assistant to the Chief of Police for Operations, Commissioner General of Police Muhammad Fadil Imran, said the Malindo JPCC serves as a strategic forum to strengthen ties between the two police forces and demonstrate readiness to address regional and global security challenges.
The forum underscores that Indonesia and Malaysia are united, forward-looking, and proactive in tackling security threats.
Since its establishment in 2010, the Malindo JPCC has facilitated cooperation in combating transnational crimes, including narcotics, human trafficking, and cybercrime.
Imran emphasized that the forum’s role extends beyond reactive measures to include proactive and predictive strategies.
During the meeting, discussions focused on information sharing, strengthening joint operations, and developing innovative human resource capacity.
“This cooperation is a major asset for ASEAN security. When Indonesian and Malaysian police are united, regional stability will be stronger. This is our real contribution, not only to both countries but also to regional and global peace,” he said.
The forum also reviewed past achievements, identified ongoing challenges, and discussed follow-up measures, including personnel exchanges between the Indonesian National Police (Polri) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
The meeting concluded with the signing of a cooperation agreement and a plaque exchange between Imran, as Indonesia’s Malindo JPCC chair, and his Malaysian counterpart, Deputy Commissioner Dato Mohammad Suzrinn bin Mohammad Rodhi.
Senior officials attending included Brigadier General Laksana, Head of Inter-Agency Cooperation at Polri’s Operations Staff; Brigadier General Marsudianto, Head of Strategic Studies; and Brigadier General Puji Santosa, Head of Administrative Planning, along with several assistant commissioners from Malaysia’s Royal Police.
