"World Contraception Day should be a crucial moment to enhance the family planning program, as contraception is not just about birth control but also maintaining the quality of family life," the Head of the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) said here on Thursday.
"With contraception, we can prevent high-risk pregnancies due to being too young, too old, or having pregnancies too closely or too frequently," he added.
He said the use of contraception can also prevent morbidity and mortality in mothers and children, as well as create a healthier and higher quality generation.
"Total Fertility Rate (TFR) was successfully reduced to 2.1 in 2024. The prevalence of modern contraception (mCPR) increased to 61.7 percent, unmet need decreased to 11.1 percent, and the birth rate among adolescents aged 15-19 years was successfully reduced to 18 per 1,000 births," he said.
He explained that the implementation of family planning regulations faces challenges in the equal distribution of contraceptive services.
"Hence, from September 1-12, 2025, family planning services will be carried out simultaneously with a target of 684,784 acceptors. Metro City was chosen as the location for the peak event of World Contraception Day," he said.
Wihaji encouraged all parties to commit to the family planning program by ensuring access to quality and equitable contraceptive services so that every family can make the right and safe choices.
"The foundation of national progress lies in the quality of the family as the smallest unit of society," he said.
"Thorough pregnancy planning can ensure optimal child growth, reduce stunting rates, and develop superior human resources to realize the vision of Golden Indonesia 2045," he added.
