Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s National Nutrition Agency (BGN) announced Thursday that all Nutrition Service Units (SPPG) must obtain Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) certification accredited by the National Accreditation Committee (KAN) to ensure proper food safety management in the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program.

“We are preparing HACCP, which focuses on food safety. Certification will be handled by accredited institutions under KAN, not by BGN itself,” BGN head Dadan Hindayana told reporters in Jakarta.

He said HACCP certification must be complemented by Hygiene and Sanitation Eligibility (SLHS) and halal certification.

To address cases of food poisoning linked to MBG meals, Dadan confirmed that some SPPGs with reported safety incidents have been suspended.

“For areas where poisoning occurred, we have temporarily halted operations pending analysis and investigation to determine what happened,” he said.

The government agreed to enforce the three certifications – SLHS, HACCP, and halal – to prevent similar incidents from recurring.

Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin stressed that the three certifications will serve as the standard for all SPPGs.

“In addition, certification will be reinforced by recognition from the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM). The Health Ministry, BPOM, and BGN will work together to implement it,” Budi said.

He added that the government is expediting the certification process to ensure efficiency, high quality, and affordable costs.

HACCP certification is designed to guarantee food processing facilities meet strict safety standards, while SLHS covers sanitation and hygiene standards for personnel.
