Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas) has distributed aid ranging from ready-to-eat meals to clean water for residents affected by a fire in Tangki Village, Tamansari, West Jakarta.

Baznas distribution and utilization lead, Saidah Sakwan, said the assistance was sourced from zakat, donations, and charity.

"During emergencies such as fires, the provision of food and drinks is crucial for evacuees. Therefore, we prioritized the distribution of ready-to-eat meals as an immediate and practical measure,” she said.

She added that the meals were designed to meet nutritional needs during the evacuation period. Food is often limited in shelters, making it a priority for Baznas to address.

Baznas’ Emergency Response Team also coordinates with the regional government, the village administration, and other stakeholders to ensure proper aid distribution.

“This disaster not only destroyed homes but also hopes and livelihoods. Baznas is committed to being part of the solution so affected residents can recover quickly,” Sakwan said.

On Sunday, September 28, a fire allegedly caused by an electrical short circuit in a fan swept through the densely populated area. The incident destroyed the homes of 316 families, affecting 1,256 people.

Tangki Village Head, Iqbal Rahmat Thahir, said around 175 residents are currently taking shelter at the village administration office and another 50 at a mosque.

He confirmed that no fatalities were reported in the incident, which was the third fire in the area in 2025.

Thahir added that the village administration continues to educate residents on identifying flammable materials at home and raising awareness of fire hazards.
