Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid said that the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) must be able to be a comfortable and productive place for journalists.

She made this statement when inaugurating the PWI Central Management for the 2025-2030 period at an event held at the National Press Monument, here on Saturday (10/4).

"PWI must be a comfortable and productive home for its members, so that journalists can produce journalistic works that are credible, independent, and full of integrity," she said.

In a ministry press statement confirmed on Sunday, the minister stated that the press has a vital role in maintaining national unity amidst the rapid flow of information in the digital era.

She said that upholding journalistic principles and ethics enables the public to obtain accurate and reliable information amidst the rise of fabricated information and the spread of hate speech.

"The challenges of digitalization and artificial intelligence make it difficult for the public to distinguish between accurate and fake news. The government encourages the public to refer to works that adhere to journalistic ethics," she said.

She emphasized the importance of maintaining the sustainability of the media industry not only as a provider of information, but also as a pillar of democracy and uniting the nation.

PWI is expected to improve the professionalism and integrity of journalists in carrying out journalistic practices.
