Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Creative Economy reaffirmed its commitment to advancing Indonesian films that enrich the national animation industry by supporting the animated film "Garuda di Dadaku" to compete at the global level.

"The Ministry of Creative Economy is interested in collaborating on Garuda di Dadaku, which has the potential to expand its character IP into merchandise and other creative products," said Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky.

He emphasized this commitment during a meeting held at the ministry here on Thursday, as quoted from the ministry's press release on Sunday.

To support the commitment, the ministry plans to collaborate with other ministries or institutions and seek international support, including from the diaspora, so that this Indonesian animated film, scheduled for nationwide release in 2026, can be showcased in several countries.

The animated film "Garuda di Dadaku" is a cross-studio collaboration between BASE Entertainment, KAWI Animation, Springboard, Dasun Pictures, AHHA Corp, Robot Playground Media, and PK Films.

During the meeting, the minister emphasized that the ministry’s support must take into account both the film’s release strategy and the protection of its Intellectual Property (IP).

The Ministry of Creative Economy previously also supported the animated film "Jumbo", which proved capable of competing internationally, attracting new investors, serving as a tool for cultural diplomacy, and inspiring the growth of Indonesia’s animation industry.

The family-oriented "Garuda di Dadaku" is expected to achieve similar success.

"The success of "Jumbo" as Indonesia’s best-selling animated film marks the rise of the national animation industry to grow and compete globally," he said.

To promote "Garuda di Dadaku", the ministry can organize various activities such as community screenings in schools, public discussions at universities or with creative communities, and other creative collaborations, he added.

The ministry’s support further strengthens BASE Entertainment’s enthusiasm as a production house based in Indonesia and Singapore that consistently delivers quality stories through top-tier creative talents.

The "Garuda di Dadaku" franchise was first adapted into a live-action film in 2009, followed by a novel titled "Mimpi Sang Garuda", a 2011 sequel, and a mini-series titled "Keluarga Garuda di Dadaku" which aired between 2014 and 2015.

"Animation is a powerful storytelling medium, especially when it draws from the Garuda di Dadaku universe that began ten years ago. The development of local IPs like this deserves strong support, as it can open future business opportunities in the creative economy," said Shanty Harmayn, Chief Executive and Producer of BASE Entertainment.

"This is not only about a passion for the creative industry but also about the love of football, which has a massive following in Indonesia,” she added.

The "Garuda di Dadaku" first-look video has garnered 86,156 views on BASE Entertainment Indonesia’s YouTube channel since early August 2025. The film also marks the directorial debut of Ronny Gani, a local talent with extensive international experience.

"We need facilitation and promotional support to show that Indonesian animated films are a special choice for local audiences. The animation industry cannot rely on just one or two films—it requires consistent production to build momentum," Harmayn continued.

Minister Teuku Riefky was accompanied by Deputy Minister for Media Creativity Agustini Rahayu, Special Staff to the Minister for Communication, Media, and Public Services Renanda Bachtar, and Director of Film, Animation, and Video Doni Setiawan.

The meeting was also attended by BASE Entertainment Co-Founder Ben Soebiakto, Co-Chief Executive Aoura Lovenson C, Distribution Manager Angga Rulianto, Distribution Executive Siska Diah Ayu, and Assistant Producer Theo Napitupulu.
