Malang, East Java (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is using the 2025 National Science Olympiad (OSN), held in Malang, East Java, as a platform to identify outstanding talents in research and innovation.

Expert Staff for Talent Management at the ministry, Mariman Darto, said that OSN winners will be selected to join the Bina Talenta Indonesia (Indonesian Talent Management) program.

“We already have the Bina Talenta Indonesia program running. We identify students’ interests and abilities through competitions at the city and provincial levels,” Darto said.

Selected students will undergo a one-year, boot-camp-style training program involving 23 public and private universities. The curriculum will focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), character development, coding, and artificial intelligence (AI).

“The key lies in how far they can meet the targets we set,” he added.

He stated that the program’s mechanism is designed to foster competitiveness, sportsmanship, and integrity among OSN participants as they develop their innovations.

“We hope these students can earn placements in international competitions, especially high school-level olympiads. Our target is to participate in 14 international events,” he said.

OSN 2025 features nine main subjects: physics, mathematics, biology, chemistry, astronomy, informatics, earth science, economics, and geography. This year, a new category—coding and AI—was introduced by the National Achievement Center (Puspernas).

The new category reflects the ministry’s performance indicators and its effort to integrate digital skills into the education curriculum. A total of 540 finalists out of 265,985 registrants are competing in OSN 2025. The coding and AI category is joined by 30 participants from 14 provinces across Indonesia.
