Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister for Higher Education, Science and Technology Fauzan has called on university students to strengthen self-capacity, calling them key drivers of Indonesia’s future.

Speaking at a public lecture during student orientation at Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang (Unimus) for the 2025–26 academic year on Saturday, he said students have a social duty to lead by example, both on and off campus.

“Students must be role models wherever they are. Learning must go beyond classrooms — it should be rooted in real-life experiences,” he said in a statement released Sunday.

Fauzan outlined the government's human capital development agenda under President Prabowo Subianto’s Astacita strategy, which prioritizes education as a pathway to achieving the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision.

He said the ministry is working to build a more impactful higher education system through research, innovation, and transformative learning, in line with the “Diktisaintek Berdampak” initiative.

With Indonesia entering a demographic bonus — where working-age citizens outnumber dependents — Fauzan said universities must adapt to meet students’ evolving needs with inclusive, relevant, and flexible learning.

“Universities must be agile and responsive, enabling students to learn anywhere, anytime. This is how we shape exceptional individuals,” he said.

Fauzan reaffirmed the ministry’s support for student-led change, driven by inclusive policy, forward-looking education, and strong backing for innovation and research.

He urged students to embrace their role in nation-building by cultivating strong character, expanding their capacities, and collaborating to build a more competitive and empowered Indonesia by 2045.

The orientation event marked the beginning of a new academic year and highlighted the government’s push to elevate higher education as a national development priority.
