..Indonesia, as a developing nation, can still achieve net zero carbon emissions by maximizing its renewable energy potential.Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s state-owned electricity company, PT PLN, remains confident in meeting its net zero emission target by 2060, emphasizing the use of the nation’s vast natural resources to achieve the goal.
PLN Director of Project Management and New and Renewable Energy (NRE), Suroso Isnandar, said on Tuesday that a key initiative is the Green Enabling Supergrid, a framework designed to connect renewable energy sources with major demand centers across Indonesia.
"In the new RUPTL (Electricity Supply Business Plan), we are promoting a program called the Green Enabling Supergrid," he stated. "It will resolve the supply-demand mismatch by transferring large volumes of NRE from source areas to demand centers."
He noted that distributing renewable energy sources evenly is essential for a successful energy transition, as it addresses Indonesia's geographical imbalance in resource availability.
Uneven distribution remains a major obstacle, as Indonesia’s rich geothermal, wind, solar, hydro, and gas resources are spread across the archipelago.
Isnandar expressed optimism that Indonesia, as a developing nation, can still achieve net zero carbon emissions by maximizing its renewable energy potential.
PLN will implement a phased energy transition, including retiring coal-fired power plants and replacing them with NRE-based facilities.
He added that the company will ensure the transition supports energy security, affordability, and environmental sustainability. PLN also pledged to uphold strong principles of good corporate governance to prevent financial instability during the transition.
