Sidoarjo, East Java (ANTARA) - The government continues to provide medical and social rehabilitation assistance to victims and families affected by the collapsed Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School (pesantren) in Sidoarjo, East Java, Social Minister Saifullah Yusuf stated.

“For social rehabilitation, the government will offer support and fulfill basic needs for victims and their families,” said the minister during a visit to victims still receiving treatment at Notopuro Regional General Hospital here on Friday.

He explained that medical rehabilitation will be provided to those currently hospitalized, while social rehabilitation will support victims and their families after hospital discharge.

Social rehabilitation includes trauma recovery and protection through health insurance coverage.

It also involves compensation for fulfilling daily needs such as food, school supplies, and empowerment assistance, especially for families whose sons suffered severe injuries requiring amputation.

“Protection and social guarantees, including meeting victims’ needs, will be extended to families to help them accompany and guide victims who have become disabled. All these needs will be supported by the government,” he said.

In addition, the East Java Provincial Government and Sidoarjo District Government have prepared disability aids like prosthetic limbs and wheelchairs for the victims.

After completing hospital treatment, victims and their families will undergo assessments by relevant parties to determine whether they need other assistance.

According to Yusuf, this is done to strengthen victims and their families so they can recover from the deep trauma caused by the tragedy.

It is recorded that there are three victims of the Al Khoziny school collapse who suffered severe injuries requiring medical amputation.

Previously, Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar said the government will carry out audit and rehabilitation for old pesantren school buildings to ensure they meet safety standards.
