Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Provincial Government is moving forward with plans to significantly expand the Light Rail Transit (LRT) network.

Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo announced on Friday that new routes will connect Dukuh Atas to Pasar Baru, with further extensions planned for historical and northern areas.

"We will soon expand to Kota Tua, Glodok, and Pasar Baru. These will become new hubs, including Dukuh Atas," Governor Pramono stated.

He added that the development will also cover locations in North Jakarta, such as Tanjung Priok, Jakarta International Stadium (JIS), and Ancol, with the hope of eventually reaching Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) 2.

The core of the plan involves establishing Dukuh Atas as a comprehensive multi-modal hub, integrating the LRT with the Commuter Line (KRL), Mass Rapid Transit, and Transjakarta services.

Pramono explained that this integration aims to provide comfortable and seamless travel for residents: "People will no longer get caught in the rain, even going to the airport (Soekarno-Hatta)."

The governor confirmed that the project is currently in the planning stage, with officials deciding the priority of construction.

The two options under final consideration are the North Jakarta route or an extension connecting Manggarai to Dukuh Atas.

Wibowo concluded, "Those two options will then be finalized. We've had two meetings, and hopefully, it will be implemented soon."

The LRT lines in Jakarta are currently divided into two types: the Greater Jakarta LRT (LRT Jabodebek), which includes the Bekasi Line (Jatimulya–Dukuh Atas), the Cibubur Line (Harjamukti–Dukuh Atas), and the Cawang Line; and the Jakarta LRT (LRT Jakarta), which runs from Kelapa Gading to Pegangsaan Dua, with an extension to the Velodrome.
