"Museums must be attractive, maybe with a touch of technology, immersive exhibitions, video mapping," he said in Jakarta on Sunday.
According to him, the utilization of digital technology that is relevant to the current era is essential to attract people to visit museums and keep them away from boredom.
In this regard, he encouraged museums to adapt to technological advancement, one of which is by featuring compelling narratives in their collections.
"We hope museums can grow, develop, and respond to technological advancement," the minister said.
He further said that to boost the attractiveness, museums may incorporate local features.
Currently, the number of museums across Indonesia has reached 481 museums and they are managed by various parties.
According to Zon, of the total number, 196 museums are managed by regional governments, while 118 museums are managed by the central government.
Furthermore, 166 museums are managed by private parties, and 1 museum is managed by a customary law community.
In commemorating the Indonesian Museum Day, the Ministry of Culture held various events, including a discussion event ahead of the day and the declaration of the Indonesian Museum Day.
The day, commemorated every October 12, is expected to enhance people's understanding and love of museums as an essential part of culture.
Earlier, Deputy Minister of Culture Giring Ganesha highlighted his ministry's commitment to improving the quality of services and management of museums with the 2025 Non-Physical Special Allocation Fund.
"I have seen it myself that the management of museums is still below standard," he said in a meeting with Commission X of the House of Representatives (DPR) in Jakarta on Wednesday (August 27, 2025).
The 2026 Non-Physical Special Allocation Fund is planned to be Rp150 billion (around US$9 million), which will be allocated to 111 museums and 29 cultural centers in various regions.
