Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government is finalizing the formulation of a presidential instruction (Inpres) to fast-track the development of outlets, warehouses, and other supporting facilities for cooperatives under the Red and White Cooperatives (KDMP) program.

In Jakarta on Monday, Cooperatives Minister Ferry Juliantono stated that the government would involve state-run food company PT Agrinas Pangan Nusantara and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) in developing such facilities, as agreed upon in a memorandum of understanding.

He pointed out that the construction of these facilities is also projected to empower local contractors and villagers.

“Hence, we need to promptly take on-field measures to catalog rural land that will be used to build cooperative warehouses and outlets,” Juliantono remarked after attending a coordination meeting of the National Task Force for Accelerating KDMP Establishment.

The minister underscored that the task force had met with President Prabowo Subianto to submit the draft of the Inpres, which he described as the government’s strategic instrument for enabling KDMPs to play a crucial role in strengthening food supply and distribution chains.

He added that the initiative also serves as concrete action to advance Indonesia’s food self-sufficiency drive and carry out President Prabowo’s order to stimulate national progress from rural areas in pursuit of equitable economic development.

Juliantono then emphasized the importance of synergy between ministries, state agencies, and regional governments to ensure that the more than 80 thousand KDMPs nationwide are equipped with the necessary supporting facilities.

“The main goal is to foster a productive and competitive system for rural economies,” he concluded.

The coordination meeting followed a joint decree signed by the Cooperatives Ministry, the Finance Ministry, the Home Affairs Ministry, the Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions Ministry, Danantara Investment Management Agency, and the State-Owned Enterprises Regulatory Agency (BP BUMN).

Earlier, on Friday (October 10), Juliantono noted that the government plans to intensify the development of KDMP supporting facilities starting on October 15.

He outlined that President Prabowo had instructed that all KDMPs must operate at least seven key facilities: grocery stores, pharmacies, clinics, management offices, savings and loan service outlets, warehouses, and logistics infrastructure.

President Prabowo simultaneously inaugurated around 80 thousand village cooperatives nationwide in Klaten, Central Java, on July 21. However, not all cooperatives began operations immediately.

Data from the KDMP program's website shows that 11,225 village cooperatives have at least one operational outlet, with nearly 16 thousand outlets already active.
