Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto has tasked Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Mendikti Saintek) Brian Yuliarto with strengthening the development of human resources based on science and technology to support Indonesia’s national downstreaming agenda.

Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi conveyed this following a limited meeting led by the President at the VVIP Room of Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base here on Tuesday.

He stated that the President emphasized the importance of mastering Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines as the foundation for preparing skilled professionals capable of advancing key government programs.

“The President has specifically assigned the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology to strengthen human resource development based on STEM,” Prasetyo said.

He explained that enhancing human resources through science and technology is part of the government’s broader strategy to build a higher education and research ecosystem that aligns with industrial needs.

This initiative aims to equip Indonesia to compete in the era of knowledge-based and innovation-driven economic transformation.

“This assignment is closely related to the preparation for several major government programs, particularly in the plantation and maritime sectors, which require high-quality human resources,” Prasetyo added.

The limited meeting was also attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Danantara CEO Rosan Roeslani, Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir, and Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto.
