Atgas underlined the need to enhance and protect the cooperatives’ products through intellectual property registration.
“It’s no longer a choice but an obligation to ensure that local products dominate in our own country,” the minister said.
He noted that collective trademark registration serves as a strategic measure to strengthen Indonesia’s people-driven economy, in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s vision.
The minister explained that a collective trademark is used by a group of individuals or organizations to identify goods and services that share the same characteristics and qualities, distinguishing them from other similar products.
He added that the Red and White Cooperative serves as a platform for collaboration and innovation. However, without legal protection, quality products risk losing their economic value and authenticity.
Registering collective trademarks, he continued, is an effective solution to protect product identity and build consumer trust through quality assurance. It also serves as a symbol of unity for members of the cooperative.
Atgas mentioned several collective trademarks registered under the Red and White Cooperative initiative, such as the Syariah Gampong Ulee Rubek Timu Red and White Cooperative in Aceh, which produces fish and salt, and the Syariah Gampong Cot Patisah Red and White Cooperative, which offers mats and woven goods.
He also acknowledged that financing remains a challenge for cooperatives and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). According to him, collective trademark registration helps address this issue by improving access to financing while providing legal protection for intellectual property.
To support this effort, the government has issued several regulations, including Government Regulation No. 24 of 2022 on MSME financing support, and Creative Economy Ministerial Regulation No. 6 of 2025 on Intellectual Property Valuation.
The Law Ministry has also issued a circular simplifying the administrative procedures for registering collective trademarks for Red and White Cooperative products.
Atgas expressed hope that these initiatives would accelerate intellectual property protection among Red and White Cooperatives, thereby strengthening the competitiveness of cooperative products in the domestic market.
