Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Ministry of Manpower is strengthening its bilateral partnership with Qatar in the labor sector.

"Indonesia and Qatar have significant opportunities to build a more concrete and mutually beneficial partnership. This can be realized through joint training, apprenticeship programs, and the exchange of expertise in productivity and occupational safety," Manpower Minister Yassierli said here on Friday.

He held a bilateral meeting with Qatari Minister of Manpower Ali bin Saeed bin Samikh Al Marri during the 6th Session of the Islamic Conference of Labor Ministers in Doha, Qatar.

During the meeting, Yassierli emphasized the importance of deepening labor cooperation between the two countries, particularly in enhancing competency, improving occupational safety, and developing internship programs for young people in strategic sectors.

He also praised Qatar for its efforts in promoting investment that supports job creation and strengthens Indonesia’s economy.

Furthermore, Indonesia proposed cooperation on internship programs for young Indonesians at leading Qatari companies such as Qatar Airways and QatarEnergy through government-to-government special apprenticeship visa schemes and intra-corporate transferee programs.

In the occupational health and safety (OHS) sector, Yassierli invited Qatar to collaborate on training initiatives in agriculture and construction to foster a safe and productive work environment.

Indonesia also encouraged Qatar’s active participation in the OIC Productivity Network and sought its support for the establishment of an Employment and Productivity Institute in Indonesia, envisioned as a learning hub for member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

As a follow-up, Yassierli invited his Qatari counterpart to visit Indonesia to observe the country’s vocational and productivity training centers and explore further cooperation opportunities.

"With the spirit of collaboration and solidarity among OIC nations, we can build a world of work that is inclusive, fair, and focused on the welfare of workers," Yassierli remarked.

As of July 2025, there are around 25,000 Indonesian citizens living in Qatar, most of whom are professionals in the oil and gas sector.
