Jakarta (ANTARA) - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo inaugurated 32 police-run nutrition service units and broke ground for 27 more on Friday as part of efforts to expand the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program.

All of the new and planned kitchens are managed by the Central Java Regional Police, Prabowo said in a statement.

“Today’s groundbreaking and inauguration bring the total number of police-run kitchens in Central Java to 100, the highest nationwide,” he said.

The 32 newly opened kitchens are expected to serve nutritious meals to 97,622 beneficiaries and provide jobs for 1,541 workers, he added.

Across Indonesia, the National Police have developed or operated 672 nutrition fulfillment service units (SPPGs), serving more than 2.3 million beneficiaries and creating about 33,600 jobs.

Of that total, 159 kitchens are operational, 115 are preparing to open, 371 remain under construction, and 27 have just begun development.

“We will continue construction to reach our target of operating between 1,000 and 1,500 MBG kitchens,” Prabowo said.

He instructed all operators to strictly follow the standard operating procedures set by the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) to prevent foodborne illness.

“It is crucial to ensure our kitchens provide meals in proper condition that meet the expectations of the children receiving them,” he said.

The MBG program, launched by President Prabowo Subianto in January 2026, aims to improve nutrition among schoolchildren, toddlers, breastfeeding mothers, and pregnant women.

The president has repeatedly said that meeting nutritional needs is key to developing a “golden generation” of healthy, competitive citizens.

As of mid-October, the MBG program has reached more than 34 million people nationwide, supported by nearly 12,000 kitchens. The government aims to expand coverage to 82.9 million beneficiaries by the end of this year.
