Speaking at a joint press conference with South African President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, President Prabowo underscored his commitment to implementing the cooperation agreements by sending technical teams and delegations to discuss concrete programs with South Africa.
“We also hope to build closer cooperation in people-to-people exchanges, including through a mutual visa-free arrangement,” President Prabowo said.
The Indonesian leader described his bilateral talks with President Ramaphosa as productive, particularly in the economic sector.
Both countries have recorded significant growth in trade over the past five years, though Prabowo noted there remains substantial potential to expand and balance the trade value.
In addition to economic matters, President Prabowo emphasized the importance of accelerating the implementation of the defense cooperation agreement that was concluded in 2023.
Collaboration in agriculture, energy, science, and education also became key areas of focus for the two leaders.
Furthermore, President Prabowo also conveyed Indonesia’s support for South Africa’s upcoming G20 Presidency in 2025, confirming his attendance at the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg on November 22–23, 2025.
Prabowo believes that South Africa’s leadership in the G20 will play a crucial role in promoting a more inclusive and equitable global economic order.
“We believe South Africa’s leadership will advance a more inclusive and equitable global economic order,” he said.
Concluding his remarks, President Prabowo reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with South Africa in the future.
“Once again, I express my sincere gratitude and appreciation for your visit, for the friendship, solidarity, and cooperation that continue to grow between Indonesia and South Africa. We remain committed to advancing our strategic partnership with South Africa,” President Prabowo said.
