Jakarta (ANTARA) - Twenty Indonesian nationals have escaped from an online scam and gambling compound in Myanmar’s Kayin State amid a major security operation, the Indonesian Embassy in Yangon said on Thursday.

The group fled the KK Park complex in Myawaddy, a notorious area under the control of the Border Guard Force (BGF) known for hosting online fraud and gambling syndicates. More than 300 foreign nationals, including about 75 Indonesians, reportedly escaped on Wednesday as Myanmar’s military, the Tatmadaw, prepared to raid the site.

“The Indonesian Embassy in Yangon has received confirmation from our embassy in Bangkok that around 20 Indonesian citizens successfully crossed the Moei River into Thailand,” the embassy said in a statement.

According to information from one of the Indonesians still inside the area, some citizens remain trapped in KK Park while others have moved toward the Myawaddy–Shwe Kokko area seeking safety.

The identities and conditions of the 20 Indonesians who reached Thailand are being verified in coordination with Thai authorities in Mae Sot.

The Indonesian Embassy in Yangon said it is maintaining close coordination with the embassy in Bangkok and engaging with Myanmar’s local authorities, humanitarian agencies, and community contacts in Kayin State to ensure the safety and evacuation of all remaining Indonesians.

The embassy also warned citizens to avoid falling for illegal job offers abroad and to stay away from conflict-prone or crime-ridden regions such as Myawaddy and Shwe Kokko, which have become centers of cyber scams and human trafficking networks.

The Indonesian government reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding its citizens and monitoring evacuation efforts to repatriate those still stranded in Myanmar’s border regions.
