Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s culture minister, Fadli Zon, discussed plans to establish a museum dedicated to the Gaza genocide and Indonesia-Palestine relations during talks with Palestinian scholar Prof. Dr. Abdul Fattah El-Awaisi.

The meeting focused on the current situation in Gaza and ways to strengthen cooperation to support the Palestinian people’s struggle.

“One idea we are developing is the Palestine-Indonesia Museum, envisioned as a center for historical and cultural learning between the two nations,” Zon said in a ministry statement Thursday.

He added that the ministry is considering several locations for the museum, including the area near Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta.

Zon also discussed opportunities for joint research on the historical ties between Indonesia and Palestine, especially since Indonesia’s 1945 independence proclamation and the 1955 Bandung Conference.

Prof. Abdul Fattah praised Indonesia’s moral and material support for Palestine and Jerusalem.

He emphasized that cooperation with countries like Indonesia is part of a long journey to build education and international relations for the Palestinian cause.

“This international experience broadens my view of education and history’s role in fostering peace and strengthening global cooperation,” he was quoted as saying.

The scholar outlined his ongoing agenda in Indonesia, aimed at enhancing academic programs, research, scientific cooperation, and cultural exchange with institutions such as the Indonesian Foreign Ministry’s Training Center and the Palestine Center at the University of Indonesia.

“We are also developing joint projects with related ministries to contribute to Indonesia’s vision for international education and culture,” he added.

Indonesia has long championed Palestinian independence, maintaining diplomatic support since its own independence.

Last September, President Prabowo Subianto reaffirmed Indonesia’s backing for Palestinian independence under the Two-State Solution at the UN General Assembly.
