Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto has instructed the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) to prepare peacekeeping troops for possible deployment in the Gaza Strip, pending the outcome of the Gaza Peace Summit in Egypt and approval from the UN Security Council.

Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi delivered the statement after a meeting at Prabowo's private residence in Jakarta on Sunday, which was also attended by TNI Vice Commander General Tandyo Budi Revita.

"If a constructive agreement is reached, a troop deployment is possible. Should the talks lead to a positive outcome or peace, one consequence could be a deployment involving Indonesia," Hadi said.

Following the limited meeting, Prabowo was scheduled to depart for Egypt to attend the Gaza Peace Summit.

"President Prabowo received the invitation on October 11 and decided to attend, as it forms part of the ongoing negotiations that, God willing, will bring peace to Palestine," Hadi remarked.

He added that Prabowo's participation underscores Indonesia's commitment to maintaining good diplomatic relations and supporting peace efforts.

Prabowo had earlier proposed deploying 20,000 Indonesian troops as peacekeepers during his speech at the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York last September.

"If mandated by the Security Council and the General Assembly, Indonesia is ready to deploy 20,000 or more troops to maintain peace in Gaza or elsewhere — in Ukraine, Sudan, or Libya," he said at the time.
